Info:

What makes the Daliborka Tower a place of interest is the story of how the name came to be. The structure itself is not much to see but every castle has to have a dungeon, and with a dungeon comes a story.

The Daliborka Tower originally was intended to be a prison for only nobles but eventually held prisoners of all classes. The name Daliborka came from Dalibor of Kozojedy, the first inmate to be held at the tower.

Dalibor was a knight that was imprisoned and sentenced to death. His crime had been aiding in a rebellion by housing serfs who felt that the crown wasn't fulfilling his purpose. For his deeds, Dalibor was viewed as the Robin Hood of the Czech kingdom.

As the story goes, Dalibor learned to play the violin so well in the dungeon that people had sympathy for him and brought him food. As the music continued the police began to be afraid to announce when the music as well as the life of Dalibor would cease. Eventually, the violin fell silent momentarily until Czech composer Smetana took the story of a young knight sentenced to death for rebellion and turned it into an opera.
