The Imperial Stables of Prague Castle is on the ground floor of the northern annex of Prague Castle. The lighting and unique walls and ceilings serves as an optical illusion that makes this part of Prague Castle seem much larger than it actually is.
The Imperial Stables were built in the late 16th century along the Pacassi Gate. Four centuries later the stables were turned into exhibition rooms. In 1993 the east wing and west wing of the stables were divided. The east serving as a creative art exhibition. The west-wing was reconstructed and used as the picture gallery. The western wing was also greatly enlarged and has been constantly re-enlarged since the 1980s.
