Info:

The Cathedral is a must see for most people coming to Prague. The baroque architecture provides a break from the heat of the summer while enjoying the beauty of painted ceilings and columns. Inside the cathedral you will be able to see many gold painted statues as well as a large alter that really gives one the feeling of the medieval times and the beliefs of the people. The balconies inside offer a great view of the paintings and the structure of the building itself. Located in the Lesser Town, its an easy stop to make while walking up to Prague Castle or down to the Charles Bridge.

The building of the St. Nicholas cathedral began in 1283 by Krystof Dientzenhofer but unfortunately he didn't live to finish it. The project was finished by his son, Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, who also designed the dome and the vault of the cathedral. The name St. Nicholas Cathedral came from a Christian saint commonly known as Santa Claus. The church itself is not dedicated to him as the gift giver but to his works as being a man of Christ. Today the face of St. Nicholas can be seen painted along the walls and the ceiling of the cathedral.
