To drive smoothly by car through Prague, is now almost impossible. An exception may be at nighttime or on Saturdays and Sundays in the morning, when many people have left the city to relax. We are getting to the point when the length of a journey in Prague will be the same as the total length of all the cars. Then everything will come to a halt...
Justification for reasonable fears linked to this is often demonstrated by the ever more frequent collapse of traffic through fares on main arterial roads. The growing numbers of cars of Prague citizens and visitors of the capital mean that a further deterioration of the situation stands on the horizon.
In Prague it has started to ring true that he who is in a rush takes the
metro, tram or bus.
Those familiar with this situation drive into the center of Prague only exceptionally, often with uncertainty whether one will be able to park. Or if you park, you may afterwards have to absolve the sin by paying an unwelcome fine.
Because of this we recommend visitors to use the P+R, Park and Ride system, which means Park and then Ride. Suitable car parks are linked to underground stations and are supervised for an acceptable fee.
