The Jewish town spread in the past in the area of the present streets Břehová, Červená, part of Dušní street, Maiselova, Pařížská, 17. listopadu and U Starého hřbitova. In the times when there lived 17000 people there was created of plain grey buildings narrow, dirty and mysterious lanes without any green, that were wonderful breeding ground for various legends. From the whole Prague there come people for amusement in the pubs and brothels. Other went here to do some shopping in the small shops, mostly in the schlock joints and the junk dealers were full of various goods.

The nonrecurring atmosphere of the Jewish town inspired a lot of artists. Unfortunately now in the former Jewish town we find only a few buildings. Most of them was destroyed during the asanation in the 19 and 20 century, after which stayed in Josefov only the most important buildings:
Old-New synagogue, Old Jewish Cemetery, Jewish Town Hall, Pinkas Synagogue,Maisel Synagogue, High synagogue, Ceremonial Hall and Spanish Synagogue.
