A Treat for Lovers of Swing
2010-01-07 15:34:19

The famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will play for a Prague audience on Saturday 9th January. In two concerts to be given in Obecní Dům at 5pm and 8pm, under the leadership of Wil Salden, the orchestra will present a programme entitled “An Evening of Swing and Elegance”.

The Prague concert by the musical ensemble will include the most famous swing and jazz compositions, not only by the orchestra’s founder, Glenn Miller, but also by other American legends of this genre from the 1940 to the 1980s. The members of the orchestra are excellent musicians and soloists, and their concerts are not without a touch of humour and refined elegance.

The history of the orchestra dates back to the 1930s. Very soon after the formation of the orchestra Glenn Miller became a star of the music world of that time. His compositions, such as In the Mood, Pennsylvania 6-500, String of Pearls or Moonlight Serenade, were played by every radio station. The life of Glenn Miller came to an end in 1944, at the age of 40, in a mysterious flying accident, but his fame never faded.

The Prague concerts also have a charitable aspect: for each ticket sold, the main partner of the event, BBH Nadační Fond, will contribute 100 CZK to the children’s charity Nadace Terezy Maxové Dětem. The concerts are almost sold out; the last tickets can be obtained from Ticketstream. Further information at: www.bbhnadace.cz Source: www.praha.eu
