Ski Track in Strahov Is Open to Everyone
2010-01-09 16:20:08

Ski Sprint Prague 2010 has finished. This is, however, not the end of skiing in Prague. Prague 6 Town Hall will leave the snow in place and is inviting all Praguers to try out the cross-country ski track and see what it was like for Koukal, Jönsson or Korostelevova!

Just like the skiers in the successful race Ski Sprint Praha 2010, won by the representatives of Sweden and Russia, people can come and experience the beauty of Prague from the ski track. Public skiing is possible in daylight, i.e. approximately from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. between the Large Strahov Stadium and Evžen Rošický Stadium.

Professional skiers complained that the base of the track was very soft, which made them go slow. But hundreds of visitors who are coming to Strahov do not have problems with the speed of the track. “I think that the snow has settled and is good for skiing,” said Barbora Vavřínová who came all the way from Benešov to try out the track. A number of cars that can be seen in the car park in Strahov have Central Bohemian or Ústí nad Labem registration numbers.

The public will have the chance to use the free track for as long as they like, provided that the weather is favourable. So far, the weather forecast seems to be good. Temperatures will stay below zero and it should snow, too.

"The area, which measures 700 metres, will be enclosed and regularly maintained, so all the cross-country skiers will be able to enjoy themselves. This is a unique occasion to extend winter sport activities in Prague 6," said the Councillor  for Prague 6, Jan Záruba.

There is enough snow, although part of it was transported to Riegrovy Sady, as had been planned. The track will be maintained, monitored and financed by Prague 6 City District and Prague City Hall. If the weather is good, the track will stay in place for one month. After that it will be at the disposal of both children and adults for free, until the snow melts.

Strahov is easily accessible by public transport. People can make use of buses no. 136, 143, 217, 191, also other bus routes (108, 174, 180) or tram routes (2, 22, 26) can be used and people can go on skis from the plain at Vypich to the stadiums. There is also enough room for parking in Strahov.
