The carnival will offer good food, drink and entertainment in three venues – Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and for the first time in Náměstí Republiky.

Care for a dance in the square?

During Eurocarnival, all three venues will change into a fair. Musical and dance groups, groups of masks and clowns or jesters will come to Prague after four years, most of them coming from Germany and Italy. They will perform at all three squares from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd January. The event is held every year in a different European city. It has already taken place e.g. in Paris, Rome, Berlin or Venice. Once more, Praguers will have the opportunity to admire beautiful and often odd costumes and to dance in the rhythm of the carnival,” said Libor Votruba from Taiko Company, which organizes the carnival.

Mask parade

The sumptuous costumes will also be presented at the Saturday’s mask parade. The procession will set off on 23rd January at 2 p.m. from Hradčanské Square and will follow the Royal Way towards the Old Town Square. “I invite everyone not to mind the weather and come to have some fun. When all the groups and ensembles arrive to the Old Town Hall, which will be around 4 p.m., there will be joint musical performances and dancing. You will also hear the most famous Czech polka song Škoda Lásky (Roll Out the Barrel),” said Henri Morstyn, the carnival’s Programme Manager.

Delicacies from all Europe

All three squares will also offer delicacies from all over Europe. Gourmets will have the opportunity to taste French pancakes, Russian chocolate sweets, Hungarian sausages, French and Holland cheeses, Italian wines and other treats. There will also be the Czech “trdelník” and sausages. Lovers of souvenirs will certainly be captured by little thematic things from Bulgaria.
