On Tuesday, Prague City Council decided to send almost 2 million crowns to help the devastated country. The money will be distributed between humanitarian organizations: Člověk v tísni, Adra and Charita. The Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém, also confirmed that a further help of 10 million CZK will be discussed at the next meeting of the Council. The City of Prague also offered a unique emergency medical vehicle to the government, which can be used to help Haiti.
As the first city in the world, Prague will organize a charity concert, where the performers will participate for free and the audience will be repeatedly invited to send a donation SMS SOSHAITI to 87777. A concert marathon will thus take place in the Old Town Square on Thursday 21st January, at which dozens of singers and bands will follow one another. “The objective of this humanitarian event is to collect as much financial means as possible via Donors’ SMS,” explains Martin Kovalčík from Člověk v tísni. His organization and the City of Prague are the main organizers of this exceptional event. The concert, entitled HELP HAITI will be broadcast live on Czech Radio Regina 92.6 FM and also the Czech TV will also broadcast sections of the concert.
All Praguers are invited to the event. The Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém has also invited the President of the CR, Václav Klaus, the Prime Minister, Jan Fišer, and other state representatives.
