The retrospective exhibition of paintings, sculptures and drawings by Ota Janeček (1919–1996), entitled The Little Retrospective, will be open until 28th February.
It is not the first time that Janeček’s works have been displayed in the Chodov Fortress. For the last nine years, some of Janeček’s numerous works have been exhibited every February in the same place. This year is the tenth year; that is why the curator, the academic sculptor Milan Martiník, has decided to organize The Little Retrospective.
Ota Janeček, who started his career at the end of the 1930’s, had been influenced by cubism, however, from the very beginning he went beyond the definition of the style.
All through his career, he created a lot of nudes. He influenced Czech graphic art and illustrative creation, he excelled as a painter of landscape and nature. In the end he spent a lot of time creating non-figural works and abstractions.
“This year’s exhibition of Janeček’s works looks back at one decade of successful thematic exhibitions in our gallery. Visitors will have the chance to see his best works – those that were exhibited here earlier and those that haven’t been displayed in the Chodovská Fortress yet. Those who like Ota Janeček will definitely enjoy the exhibition,” said the curator of the Chodov Fortress Gallery, Milan Martiník.
The exhibition is open daily except Monday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission 70 CZK, concessions 50 CZK.
