The successor to the throne, Prince Charles with his wife Camilla, who arrived in Prague on Saturday, met with President V. Klaus and the Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém.
The Prince and his wife will spend four days in the Czech Republic. Immediately after their arrival, Charles and Camilla were greeted by President Václav Klaus and his wife Livia. It is Charles’s fifth official visit to the Czech Republic, for Camilla it is the first official visit, although she has been here on a private visit several times before.
With the Mayor in the gardens
Prince Charles and the Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém, walked through the gardens under Prague Castle, as at the beginning of the 1990’s Prince Charles donated some money from his funds for their reconstruction. Apart from Ledeburská and Pálffyovská Gardens, the Prince and the Mayor also visited the only garden belonging to the City of Prague, i.e. Fürstenberská Garden. “It is a great honour to meet Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla,“ said Mr. Bém, “Prague Castle gardens are not only an important historical and cultural sight, they are also a place in the middle of a busy city offering peace and beauty, greenery and a romantic view of Prague and the River Vltava.“
Prince remembered Czech parachutists
The Prince, who is also known to be a history enthusiast, visited the Church of St. Cyril and Method in Resslova Street, where he looked at the monument to the heroes of the assassination of Heydrich, especially the parachutists serving in Britain to fight fascism. The Prince also met war veterans and dined with President Klaus.
