Old Town Square Offers a Bohemia Jazzfest Cocktail
2010-06-30 14:35:24

This year, for the 5th time, the historical Old Town Square will experience the jubilee year of the international jazz festival Bohemia Jazz Fest. On the very first day of the festival Prague will greet the main stars, Stanley Clarke and his Group.

Two July evenings will be enhanced by top musicians from Austria, the USA, Spain, Scandinavia and other countries. This year, as always, the concerts will all take place free of charge.

The founder and organizer of the International jazz festival Bohemia Jazz Fest is world renowned jazz guitarist of Czech origin, Rudy Linka. The festival takes place on the open stage of the most beautiful historical squares of Czech towns and admission is free to all festival concerts – last year’s concert in Old Town Square alone attracted an audience of about 20,000.

It was in Old Town Square that, in 2008, the festival first awarded the international Bohemia Jazz Award. It was presented to American guitarist John Scofield. Last year the award, in the form of a cobble stone to symbolize the Central-European historical square in which the Bohemia Jazz Festival takes place, was carried away from České Budějovice by American saxophonist Joshua Redman.

“I am honoured that the unique project Bohemia Jazz Festival is again coming to Prague and I’m happy that, for the 5th time, we can savour the atmosphere of the festival in Old Town Square. Since time immemorial Prague has been an important cultural centre and meetings of artists from every corner of the world are an integral part of Prague’s social life. It really pleases me that the Bohemia Jazz Fest has become a traditional festival in Prague’s cultural calendar. My thanks go to the musicians and festival organisers for a wonderful program and I thank you, dear spectators and jazz fans, for supporting the festival with your attendance. I look forward to meeting you again in Prague in a year’s time for more good jazz,” said the Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém.
