All of Prague’s open-air swimming pools have been good so far, the quality of water meets the criteria of the Prague Health Station.
Hostivař to be improved
Hostivař Dam used to be a problematic summer swimming resort for a long time. It was full of cyanobacteria and low-quality water. This is soon going to be a matter of the past. This year the dam is closed as it is being dredged and cleaned. However, the beach volleyball court and the nude beach are open. The dam will not reopen until 2012. The quality of water is likely to significantly improve, just as it happened after Dľbán was dredged.
No problems anywhere
The quality of water is usually brought down by high temperatures. So far, we have not had many hot days, so all the big open-air swimming pools are o.k. at the moment. Up to date data on the quality of water can be found out at the Prague Health Station website (available only in Czech). It includes the quality of water in Lhotka, Dľbán, Severák and Motol.
Cold but good
The water in the swimming pool U Veselíků in Divoká ©árka is colder than elsewhere. This popular open-air swimming pool gets water from local sources and the water is one to two degrees colder than in warm muddy ponds. On the other hand, quality is guaranteed. Hygienists do not recommend swimming in the Vltava, yet since recently the quality of water has significantly improved it is possible to have a swim in the Yellow Spa, which offers a wide range of entertainment. A number of events will be organized there as part of the celebrations of its 100th anniversary.
Central Bohemia without problems
Praguers also like to visit various open-air pools in the Central Bohemia Region. They equally like to go to Slapy Dam. At the moment, the quality of water is good in Slapy, in Tyrą swimming pool in Rakovník, Proboąt Lakes, Jureček swimming pool in Říčany, Vyľlovka or in Popovice pond. A lower quality of water has been reported in Bělá pod Bezdězem, Komárovský Pond and Orlík. Detailed list of Central Bohemian open-air swimming pools indicating up-to-date quality of water can be found here.
