Prague, My Love
2010-07-12 22:47:26

In the streets of Prague a film is being made by students of FAMU (Film and TV school of Academy of Performing Arts) entitled Praho, má lásko (Prague, my love). The public will see the film in March next year.

It is a collection of short stories in which seven young directors are participating. “It originated under the world-wide concept of Cities of Love,” said Tomáš Pešule of 2nd year Production at FAMU, which is providing film-making and production support for the film. “So far we are working on two out of seven stories, during the summer we’d like to finish the greater part of all seven stories and then do the post-production work in autumn,” said Pešule.

Prague in the leading role

“Prague often plays a role in films, but sometimes it represents Vienna, or maybe Berlin, sometimes shots of Prague are presented as “any old” city. It last played the leading role in Kozí příběh (Goat’s tale). Kozí příběh II, which we’re preparing, will be another such film,” said  Martin Palán, Director of Company Development at Bonton Film, which is also responsible for the film Prague, my love.

FAMU and Bonton Film together

“We decided to support young talent and  I’d say that precisely this film, Prague, my love, is a turning point in cooperation between Bonton Film and FAMU. “The whole film will definitely appeal to the audience – it has a young approach,” said Palán. “It should be our first joint project with FAMU, further ventures should follow later this year.”

Where is the film set?

Local patriots of Prague will be in their element, the film features Libeň, Žižkov, Staré Město,  Stromovka, Prague Castle and dozens of other places that appealed to the screenwriters and directors. What’s remarkable is that not all the directors are Czech, so even the view of Prague may be surprising. As for the film topics, they are all based in the present and they are not linked by any acting celebrities.

Celebrities won’t be lacking

As is common in FAMU films, a rich selection of acting celebrities will be making appearances in individual stories, some of them view it as a matter of professional pride to act in a student film. “As we’re just at the beginning I can only say that Květa Fialová will be in one of the stories, and another will feature Jan Budař,” points out Tomáš Pešule.
Prague City Hall is acting as patron of the whole project.
