At Letní Letná Festival (18th – 31st August), the leading representative of the French Contemporary Circus, theatre artist, acrobat, clown and director Daniel Gulko with his Cahin Caha company will present his brand new performance entitled REV.
Gulko, a well-known artist in the CR, created his new performance for six actors – acrobats, jugglers, clowns and a singer. “The performance will take the spectators on a journey combining phantasmal dreams, mystic images and the magic and skill of the circus with a deeper philosophical message,” says Jiří Turek, director of the festival. “In his typical manner, he juggles with the parallel between circus, rotational movements, round things and the word “revolution“. He examines various rotation techniques, such as Dervish dances, the dynamics of a wheel or unstable surfaces.”
During the performance, actors use balancing balls, inflatable balls, bikes, vertical bars, truck tyres or hoops. The basic layout of the stage is formed by nine metal beds, which they turn into such forms like ingenious constructions, mini-stages, pedestals or towers. Everything happens as if in a dream. “Unlike our western civilization, most of the other cultures have recognized the hidden influence of dreams – bubbles, which rise to the surface from the world of unconsciousness to expose hidden structures of our reality,” says Daniel Gulko.
The performance is accompanied with live music. Tickets for the total of five evenings (27th–31st August) are available from the Ticketpro network. More information at www.letniletna.cz.
At present, the Letní Letná Festival also offers a summer festival school, parallel with the festival. The school is aimed at children from 6 to 15 years of age and is named Letní Letňák. A diverse programme for children is prepared and led by experienced and high-quality teachers and pedagogical workers – marionettes and masks workshop, painting, singing, juggling. The programme will be enriched with walks organized by the National Gallery and with children’s performances offered by the Letní Letná Festival.
The Letní Letná Festival will traditionally take place between Hanavský Pavilion and Kramář Villa. It will offer a two-week marathon of other foreign stars of the Contemporary Circus, Czech theatre groups, fairy tales, activities for children and their parents or simply a place to have a rest and to have fun. The first confirmed ensembles are the French Atelier Lefeuvre & André, formed by two ex-members of the legendary Cirque O and Que-Cir-Que, which after its last year’s sold out guest appearance comes back with an evening performance with an erotic theme – Bricolage Erotique.
