The exhibition Three Women in Africa presents a distillate of striking images captured by the three strong hearted women artists whose work focuses on the many shards of their experience in Africa. The connecting thread of the exhibition is that it is a woman’s perspective on African issues and displays their passion and inspiration for working in Africa.
All three photographers won an award for their African photographs at the prestigious competition Czech Press Photo. Where and When? In Romanesque-Gothic building of the Old Town Hall starting in September and October 2010.
Very few female photographers set out for the often-dangerous areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. The work there is complicated not only with security and health risks, but it is also further complicated by the fact that there are few people in the world that dislike having their picture taken as much as Africans and they can make it very obvious. This makes the images more valuable when the images will be displayed in the new exhibition space in the Old Town Hall.
Moreover, all three photographers will bring not only these photographs into the light of day but also social and cultural issues. Every photograph carries a story. They are testimonies of wars, famine and poverty, as well as of the beauty of Africa, its culture and the special African charm that is so difficult to resist.
