Advent is drawing closer, Christmas markets in The Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square are starting and the Christmas tree in The Old Town Square will soon be lit up.
The Christmas tree that has already been erected in The Old Town Square will have undergone a huge change by the end of the week. It will be decorated to bring joy to all those who will visit Prague before Christmas.
Tree is safe
The tree was first stored in Stodůlky and then transported without problems on a thirty-metre-long vehicle to The Old Town Square.” The only slight problem were the concrete blocks in Plzeňská Street where we had to lift the tree but the rest of the journey went smoothly,” said Martin ©vestka whose company was in charge of the falling and transporting the tree. The tree arrived in the square around 1 a.m. and was installed at about 2:30 a.m. It was necessary to attach steel holders to the tree, which, together with rope, make sure the tree will not fall. The tree was also checked by dendrologists.
Market preparation
The tree is approximately 23 metres long and is anchored into three several-tonne-heavy blocks. At the same time the first stalls of the largest Christmas market in Prague have appeared.
“It is a pleasure to work with real experts,” said the author of the architectural look of the markets, Pavel Kocych, who came that night to watch the building of this year’s market.
Light up the tree!
The tree will be lit up on Saturday at 5 p.m. Each of the thousands bulbs can be sponsored. The proceeds from the event will go to Rosa – a home for domestic violence victims.
A bulb can be sponsored via a text message as follows: DMS ZAROVKA sent to number 87777. The price of one text message is 30 CZK, out of which 27 CZK will go to the Rosa project.
