Opera Stars Have Fallen in Love with Prague
2012-01-13 14:15:26

This year’s attractive meeting of the world’s opera stars in Prague, which has been organized by the Nachtigall Artists Management for many years, opens on 25th January in Smetana Hall of the Municipal House, with the performance of the American mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey, who performs in the Metropolitan Opera, New York, as well as other famous opera houses around the world.

Crazy Kate in men’s roles

The young American mezzo-soprano will interpret a varied programme consisting of arias from her opera and operetta roles. Kate will perform her famous roles, such as the ever enamoured cherub by Mozart or the loyal Niklaus by Offenbachs. “ young, slim, attractive, with a dark, flawlessly placed mezzo soprano and a range of expression from foolish to satirical to sympathetic, gave it star quality,” wrote John Yohalem in his review for Opera Today.

Kate Lindsey in Offebach’s opera The Tales of Hoffmann:

Kate’s repertoire includes songs by G. Bizet, H. Berlioz, F. Liszt, Charles Ives, Ernest Chausson, Alma Mahler, Elliott Carter or the song cycle Jeder Mensch, written for Kate Lindsey by the Arabic American composer Mohammed Fairouz. It will be a cycle of songs by Hector Berlioz, Les Nuits d'Été, which will start the performance. Their unifying element being the unreciprocated, ephemeral or lost love.

World-famous Czech violinist

Besides Kate Lindsey, the Municipal House will also present the exceptionally talented young violinist Roman Patočka, winner of numerous prestigious international competitions, including the Sarasate Competition, Pamplona. Roman Patočka will interpret Carmen by Pablo de Sarasate, Dvořák’s Humoresque Ges major and Monti’s Czardas. The Czech Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni, from the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liege, Belgium.

Other opera stars

Throughout the year, the Nachtigall Artists Management agency will be organizing other concerts of opera stars. Kate Lindsey will be followed by the world-famous Mexican tenor Rolando Villazón on 13th April and the Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča on 25th September, both at Smatana Hall. Probably the last concert organized by the Nachtigall Artists Management will be the concert of the charismatic Italian bass-baritone Ildebrand D’Arcangel on 23rd October at Dvořák Hall, Rudolfinum.
