This year’s Eiga-sai, a Japanese film festival which takes place from 20th to 26th January in Lucerna Cinema, gives homage to the film director Takeshi Kitano. The festival will open with his film Hana-bi (Fireworks), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1998. All in all, the film festival will show 14 films, both feature and animation. Some of them will be shown for the first time ever in the Czech Republic.
The section dedicated to Kitano will also contain an archival series with a number of films from the 1950’s to the 1980‘s. These pictures with their unique atmosphere represent a unique surge known as the Japanese new wave. As usual, both sections also feature films that will be shown for the first time in the CR. They will be projected in their original version with both Czech and English subtitles.
