Rudolph II’s Commemoration Events Will Continue
2012-02-07 13:13:36

About 17 thousand visitors have visited the exhibition in the Rudolph Gallery that commemorated the 400 year anniversary of the death of the Emperor Rudolf 11 who chose Prague as his throne. The exhibition lasted ten days.

The place, which is not usually open to visitors, was offering some intriguing exhibits: a copy of Rudolph’s coffin as well as originals related to Emperor’s funeral, such as his shroud, jacket, shoes and hat. Part of the exhibition was a documentary about the life of Rudolph II.

According to the words of the Prague Castle’s representatives, the exhibition was closed because the items exhibited suffered due to changes in air conditions.

Commemoration of Emperor Rudolph 11 continues

In February, Prague Castle Picture Gallery will exhibit the work of various artists that lived and worked at Rudolph’s court: Hans von Aachen, Bartholomew Spranger and Matthäus Gundelach. Aachen’s self-portrait will be displayed for the very first time in Prague.

In the pipeline is also an exhibition dedicated to another Czech king, Ferdinand I of Austria. The event is scheduled for May and it should be held in Queen Anne's Summer Palace and in Emperor’s Stable.
