The chateau received its current Baroque appearance in the 18th century when it was re-built according to the designs fo Giovanni Santini and Francis Maxmilian Kanka. The compound has its centrepiece in a royal hunting lodge dating from 1268 and a Cistercian monastery founded by Wenceslas II in 1291. On the chateau premises is the Prague National Gallery's permanent exhibition of Asian Art. It contains over 1.000 works originating in Asia> art from Japan, China, India, South-East Asia, Tibet, Islamic art, the Rainer Kreissl Collection, tactile exhibition of Japanese sculpture.
