The museum was founded in 1883. The historical Prague exposition presents the history and development of the city from its beginnings in the 9th century. The living style of Prague's population is illustrated by samples of completely furnished interiors, particulary interesting are the collections of house signs and old pictures describing the life in old Prague. A detail model of Old Prague (made by A.Langwell in 1826-1837) is also exhibited. On the main staircase there is the original calendar panel from the Astronomical clock of the Old Town Hall by Josef Mánes.
