Arriving in Prague

By train

All international trains arrive either at Praha hlavni nadrazi (main train station) or at Praha Holesovice. Both are located on the C line of the subway and are served by several tram lines.

The main train station is located only a few minutes from Prague's city centre and Wencelas Square. At both stations you can find money exchange offices, tourist information offices and a left luggage service. You are also able to book accommodation through some agencies there.
RRemember, in summer the international trains tend to be full and you should book your seat at least a few weeks ahead.

By car

The quickest way of taking your car to the Prague from Britain is via the Channel Tunnel (Euro Tunnel). The most direct route from Calais to Prague is via Lille, Brussels, Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremberg, entering the Czech Republic at the Waidhaus - Rozvadov border crossing - a journey of just over 1000 km.

As in the rest of Continental Europe you drive on the right-hand side of the road. The legal driving age is 18 years. The speed limit in built-up areas is 50 km/h, on major roads 90 km/h, and on motorways 130 km/h. Children under the age of 12 mustn't sit at the front seat. Drivers from the USA, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand need no international driving permit, only a full domestic license, along with the vehicle registration. You'll also need a certificate of insurance or "green card", normally valid for three months, showing you have full liability insurance. If you opt for a Channel tunnel crossing the fares may be very expensive up to £300 for one car, the ferry can be as little as half the price of driving through. It’s worth looking for special deals as prices vary and depending on the season and promotions. Always book well ahead. Getting to the Czech Republic by car can be much more expansive compared to many low cost flights, plus you will have to spend over 14 hours behind the wheel. The Czech Republic is covered with a network of generally good roads; old routes often go through villages and small towns. There are some 500 km of European-style motorways, the main ones being the D1 or E50/E65 between Prague and Brno. The traffic on motorways and country roads tends to be light.

By bus

If you are arriving by bus you’re most likely to terminate your journey at the main bus terminal Praha Florenc .

This bus terminal is about 15 minutes from the city centre, situated on the eastern edge of the New Town , it is easily accessible by tube (yellow line B and red line C) and trams. The bus terminal also has a left luggage facility and some exchange offices. Generally, bus is the cheapest way to travel across Europe. The Prague has regualar connections from/to major European cities several times a week.

By plane

Prague Airport , Ruzyne (all international flights arrives here), is located 17km from the city centre.

The journey from airport to city centre takes around 20 - 25 minutes, or around 55 minutes by Public Transport. At arrivals you will find the tourist information desk where you can get any information and help from friendly staff, who all speak English and German.

You can easily get to city using one of public buses, No.100, No.119, No.254 and No.179. You must buy a ticket before travelling at the arrivals lobby, at ticket machines or at the newsagents. Tickets cost just 26 CZK . If you take the No.119 or No.254 bus (every 15 to 20 minutes, journey takes about 20min) you should get off at the last stop called Dejvicka where you can transfer to the metro (subway) line A.

Alternatively there is a taxi rank and private shuttles which take you directly to the city from Prague airport. Be aware that Prague taxi drivers, though less than before, may try to rip of tourists. Save money and book comfort and reliable private Prague Airport Transfer here!
